Description

Peoples Democratic Party of Afghanistan has a communist-like flag.  The party was founded in 1965 year and took power in country in April of 1978. PDPA had about 100 000 members and established usual Marxist one-party dictatorship with financial and military support of USSR. Unique in the  communist world, it had two official factions: radical Khalq (Masses) led by Nur Mohammad Taraki and moderate Parcham (Flag) led by Babraq Karmal. Fighting between them led to Soviet invasion in December 1979 and Civil war in Afghanistan. Under reforms made by Mohammad Najibullah was PDPA renamed to Party of Watan (Homeland) in 1990 and lost power in 1992. The flag was red with party emblem, yellow cogwheel and wheat ear, shifted to the hoist.
