About the Flag of Cruzeiro

The flag of the Regional Administration of Cruzeiro was selected on 20 July 1993 through a competition promoted by the local Rotary Club. According to the winning designer, a watchman named Sebastião Menezes da Silva, the predominantly blue color is that traditionally used for the city. On the center is a symbol of the city in white, composed of four "C"s (for Cruzeiro) that represent the four sectors of the city. The cross represents the monument where the first mass conducted in the Federal District took place. In the inner area of the symbol, four arrows represent the cardinal points of the compass, signifying the origins of the population of Cruzeiro from all areas of Brazil. At the junction of the "C"s are four stars, again representing the sectors of the city and completing the circular design.
