Municipality

The municipality of Coqueiros do Sul (2,486 inhabitants in 2014; 27,727 ha) is located 300 km of Porto Alegre.

Coqueiros do Sul was established in 1924 by Felix Guerra, owner of the Coqueiros estate. When initiating paths through the forest, the early German colonists came across three prominent coconut trees, so that the place was known as Três Coqueiros (Three Coconut Trees), subsequently shortened to Coqueiros.
The municipality of Coqueiros do Sul was established by Municipal Law No. 9,565 promulgated on 20 March 1992. "do Sul" (Southern) was added to the name of the municipality for the sake of differentiation from other placed named Coqueiros.

Description of the Flag

The flag of Coqueiros do Sul is white with the municipal coat of arms in the center. The coat of arms features, dexter, the three coconut trees for which the town was named.
