Municipality

The municipality of Pareci Novo (4,164 inhabitants in 2015; 5,740 ha) is located 60 km north of Porto Alegre.

Pareci Novo is named for Fazenda Parecy, which was estbalished around 1800, and named for an Indian who settled there when 9-10 years old, coming from the Pareci tribe in Mato Grosso. Most early settlers, however, were German immigrants coming from Hamburg.
The municipality of Pareci Novo was established by State Law No. 9,620 promulgated on 20 March 1992, separating from Montenegro.
