Municipality

The municipality of Santo Expedito do Sul (2,461 inhabitants in 2010; 12,574 ha) is located 400 km of Porto Alegre.

Santo Expedito do Sul was first settled in 1930 by lumberjacks. The first, dedicated to St. Expeditus, church was erected in 1943 by Italian immigrants. At the time, the settlement was integrated to the municipality of Lagoa Vermelha as Secção Paraiso, much later transferred to São José de Ouro
The municipality of Santo Expedito do Sul was established by State Law No. 9,590 promulgated on 20 March 1992.

The flag of Santo Expedito do Sul is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 134 promulgated on 29 May 1995. The coat of arms of Santo Expedito do Sul is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 24 promulgated on 12 March 1993.

Using a rising diagonal design, blue-white-blue, with narrow yellow, red and green stripes on the broad white stripe, all separated by white, with the municipal arms in a white disk in the centre, a single star in the upper hoist, and a cluster of stars in the lower fly, on the blue fields.
