At the Royal Montreal Regiment pages can be found one of the best detailed images of a Canadian Regimental Colour that I have seen on the web. Very nicely shown is the wreath of maples leaves in "autumnal colours" common to all Canadian Regimental Colours. Two oddities of this particular flag are the roman numeral XIV in the center, which commemorates the fact that the regiment perpetuates the 14th Battalion of the WWI Canadian Expeditionary Force; and the badge of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps at the bottom. Only infantry regiments carry colours, and the outbreak of war often finds the wrong the proportion of arms to meet the crisis. The British and Dominion practice in WWII was to convert infantry battalions to armour, artillery and signals as needed for the duration of the war, and then convert them back to infantry afterwards. They were awarded the badge of the corps they had been converted to for display on the Colours. The Royal Montreal Regiment served most of WWII as the 32nd Reconnaissance Regiment of the RCAC.

The text also notes that the Royal Montreal Regiment was the third Canadian regiment to receive a Queen's Colour in the form of the new national flag (9 Nov. 1969).
