Description of the flag

The Parti Communiste du Québec (PCQ) was officially founded in 1965 by Samuel Walsh (1916-2008), as the Québec branch of the Party Communiste du Canada (PCC). Walsh chaired the PCQ from 1962 to 1990. Nearly extinct in 1991, the PCQ was refounded in 1998. In May 2005, the issue of the sovereignty of Québec caused a clash between the PCC and the PCQ; the PCQ registered as a political party independent from the PCC.

The flag of the PCQ, as seen on several photos shown on the party's website, is red with the party's emblem, made of a yellow fleur-de-lis surrounded on the left by a yellow wheat spike and on the right by a blue half cogwheel. The yellow acronym "PCQ" is placed under the emblem.
