Description of the flag

The District of Lake Country (10,367 inhabitants in 2005; 122.16 sq. km), incorporated as a municipality on 2 May 1995, is located near the centre of the Okanagan Valley. It is made up of four distinct neighbourhood communities: Oyama, Winfield, Carr’s Landing and Okanagan Centre.

In "Lake Country Calendar", 24 August 2010, Chris Law reports the non-adoption of the district's flag: "Several months ago, the Public Arts Advisory Commission (PAAC) was commissioned by the District Council to propose an official flag. On 24 August 2010, PAAC Chair Sahron McCoubrey presented a proposal, "a blue image of water serving as a background, with the District of Lake Country’s logo in the bottom right corner".

The Council rejected the proposal, mostly for non-vexillological reasons. A councillor said there had been not enough public input gathered by the PAAC, and would have preferred a design contest for young artists. Accordingly, the Council has commissioned the District staff to prepare a report "reviewing options for a new flag and the process through which its design is to be facilitated".
