The Municipality

The municipality of Saint-Élie-de-Caxton (1,800 inhabitants, 129.5 km²)
Named Saint-Élie before 2005.
Olivier Touzeau, 4 November 2019

The municipality of the parish of Saint-Élie-de-Caxton was established on 1865, the same year as the canonical erection of the parish. The parish's name is taken from that of the post office inaugurated in 1872, which was named for priest Joseph-Élie-Sylvestre Sirois-Duplessis (1795-1878), and for the canton of Caxton, which was established in 1839. The first Municipal Council was formed on 20 January 1868.
