Introduction

The DRP was a right-extremist party, founded in 1950 and formed the main basis for the foundation of the NPD in 1964. Many of the founding members were old Nazis. The Adenauer government thought about banning the party in 1953. In the Bundestag elections it gathered around 1% of the votes (1953, 1957 and 1961); in Landtag elections the DRP cooperated sometimes with the DP or the GB/BHE, but only won one seat in Rhineland-Palatinate in 1959.

Description

The flag shown above was adopted by the party Executive Board on 2 June 1950. The flag in this form was used by lower levels of the party organization, whereas the Executive Committee only used vertical banners, with the eagle moved slightly upwards. My images are based on the eagle drawing in Rabbow 1970. Besides the DRP also used the black-white-red tricolour to show its hostility towards the democratic government. Sources: Rabbow 1965 and Rabbow 1970.
