Description of current flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a red over yellow horizontal bicolour. The coat of arms is in the centre of the flag. The height of the shield should be 11/14 of total height.

Description of coat of arms:
The golden (= yellow) shield is divided by two red bars. The bars are superimposed by a silver (=white) well masoned black, which is topped by three reeds of the same colour.
Meaning:
According to source the basic colours are symbolizing the counts of Oldenburg. The well is symbolizing an ancient well located in the village, which had been established in the early 10th century. It is also symbolizing the importance of the spa facilities of the municipality. The reed is symbolizing the marshes around the municipality.

According to Hans van Heijningen "Wappen und Flaggen im Landkreis Ammerland" the flag was adopted by the local council on 26 June 1990. After the draft had been endorsed by main state archive in Hannover the flag was approved by the county council on 3 September 1990.The arms were granted in 1968.
