Südbrookmerland Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a red field is a golden eagle. In front of its bottom is a sun-disc of the same colour and also ten billets.
Meaning:
The eagle is that one of the chieftains of tom-Brook kin, as described at Brookmerland comprehensive municipality was part of the coat of arms of former municipality of Oldeborg, where the tom-Brooks had had a castle. The sun-disc was found in the swamps of Morrdorf in 1910. Nobody recognized its cultural importance and the disc nearly disappeared as private property but ended up in 1926 in Landesmuseum Hannover. The billets are symbolizing the ten former municipalities, which were unified as Südbrookmerland in 1972.
