Pankow is the third district (borough) of Berlin. In Berlin's 2001 administrative reform it was merged with the former districts (boroughs) of Prenzlauer Berg and Weißensee; the resulting district retained the name Pankow.

On 28 July 2009 , the new Coat of arms of the district of Pankow was the district awarded by the Berlin Senate. The CoA drawed and prepared by German heraldist Jög Mantzsch. On 24 February 2009, Mr. Mantzsch draft the district administration (Bezirksamt) a new coat of arms draft. A few days later, on 4 March 2009, the district parliament of Pankow decides the new CoA. The official description reads:
"In Silber oben eine durchgehende und oben anstoßende rote Mauer ohne Fugen mit drei offenen Toren ohne Torflügel, der mittlere der Torbögen breiter und höher als die äußeren; unten ein achtspeichiges rotes Rad, oberhalb seiner Mitte beidseits begleitet von je einer grünen Hopfendolde mit Blatt. Auf dem Schild ruht eine rote dreitürmige Mauerkrone, deren mittlerer Turm mit dem Berliner Wappenschild belegt ist.".

The gate (in German: Tor) symbolizes the historic gates, which situated on the historic streets in the surrounding of Brandenburg. (Rosenthaler Tor, Koenigstor, Prenzlauer Tor and Schoenhauser Tor). The wheel is derived from the emblem of the Saint Catherine (sword and breaking wheel), the saint patron of the villages and former district of Weißensee. The umbels of hops with leaves can be found in the coat of arms of the former district of Prenzlauer Berg.

Due to the adoption of this coat of arms use ALL new districts (boroughs) of Berlin, an official CoA and an official flag. (see pls.: this website).
