Griesheim gained city rights in 1965. The oldest seal of the village, dating from the 16th century displays a horseshoe over an arrow-shaped village symbol. In the next seal, known from 1649, the latter had changed into a goosefoot. The rose also appeared in 1649, it is interpreted as a symbol of the local court. The colours were fixed in 1915.
