Plankstadt Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, a cross fleury Argent, accompanied by four 5-point stars Or, in centre surmounted by a heraldic rose Gules, barbed and seeded Vert.
Meaning:
The colours blue and silver (= white) had been those of the Palatine Electorate, more precise those of its rulers from the Wittelsbach kin. The tinctures were adopted in 1896. The Palatine Counts ruled the municipality from the 13th century until 1802. The arms are based on a local court seal from 1487. The seals from the 19th century only displayed a simple cross and the four stars. Cross fleury and stars, attributes of St. Mary, are probably related to the Cistercian Monastery of Schönau, established in 1142, which had acquired nearly all real estates of the municipality between 1254 and 1259. The rose is considered to be a symbol of the local court, might however be just another attribute of St. Mary, who is also the local patron saint.

Banner and arms were approved on 19 January 1959 by Minister of Interior of Baden-Württemberg, published in GABl 128/1959.
