Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess, above Azure, a demi-lion issuant, barry of four of Argent and Gules, crowned and armed Or, beneath Vert a saltire Or.
The demi-lion is a modification of the arms of Hesse, as the city is part of Hesse since 1323. The saltire displays the arms of the Lords of Merenberg, a local kin.
The arms were approved in 1937.
