Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a green shield is a silver(=white) horn topped by a fessy, wavy line of the same colour. The shield has a silver(=white) chief divided by a red cross. The arms were approved by Regierungspräsident Detmold on 25 May 1962.
Meaning:
According to source the chief is symbolizing the former sovereignity of the archbishops of Paderborn. The green colour is symbolizing woods and meadows of that rural area. The wavy line is symbolizing the riches of water and the origin of river Ems. The horn reminds at a castle of the archbishops used for hunting, which had been erected in 1661.
