Schwarzenbek-Land Coat of Arms

It is a red shield. Above is a silver (= white) horsehead. Below is a fleur de lis of the same colour. The shield has a green bordure. Between shield and bordure is a golden (= yellow) tressure superimposed by 19 balls of the same colour exceeding the tressure.
Meaning:
The horsehead is taken from the arms of Herzogtum Lauenberg County, to which the subcounty belongs. The lily is taken from the arms of the Schack family, which had great influence on the development of the subcounty as owner of the manors Gülzow and Basthorst. The balls on the tressure are representing the 19 municipalities of the subcounty. Those are: Basthorst, Brunstorf, Dahmker, Elmenhorst, Fuhlenhagen, Grabau, Groß Pampau, Grove, Gülzow, Hamfelde, Havekost, Kankelau, Kasseburg, Kollow, Köthel, Kuddewörde, Mühlenrade, Möhnsen and Sahms.

It is a yellow - red - yellow vertical bicolour with ratio approx. 2:5:2. The coat of arms without shield is in the red stripe.

Basthorst Municipal Coat of Arms

The red shield is superimposed by a golden (= yellow) bend, which is superimposed by a green crancelin. Above left is a silver (= white) horsehead. Below right is a fleur de lis of the same colour.
Meaning:
The fleur de lis is taken from the arms of the Schack family. The family's existence is proven since 1162. The Schacks had been among the first colonists of the Sadelbande region, the first stronghold of German, i.e. Saxon, settlers in the area. The crancelin is taken from the arms of the Dukes of Saxe-Lauenburg. The horsehead is a modification of the Saxon horse, which had been introduced to the arms of Lauenburg in 1816 by the Danish kings.

Brunstorf Municipal Coat of Arms

The shield is divided per bend sinister into red over gold (= yellow). Side by side from dexter to sinister there are a golden (= yellow) leaf; an axe and a scythe in counterchanged colours; a red church tower.
Meaning:
The tower belongs to the local church. The leaf is symbolizing woods, nature, acres and meadows, furthermore the ring of linden trees around the church. The axe is symbolizing forest clearance, the scythe is symbolizing farm working in present and past.

The shield is divided per chevron ployé into gold (= yellow) over green. Above right is a green oak leaf. Above left is the green half-timber construction of two houses. Below central is a golden (= yellow) fleur de lis.
Meaning:
The fleur de lis is taken from the arms of the Schack family. The other elements are canting. The name is of Slavic origin and means "oak village".

Groß Pampau Municipal Coat of Arms

The shield is divided per fess wavy into gold (= yellow) over blue. Above right is a green oak leaf, above left a red horsehead. Below is a silver (= white) baleen whale. The base is superimposed by a silver (= white) three peaked mountain.
Meaning:
Old oak trees are predominating the appearance of the village. The horsehead is representing the county and the subcounty as well. An important business line is digging for gravel. In 1985 in a local gravel-pit the skeleton of a 10,000,000 years old baleen whale was discovered. During the following years also the skeletons of another baleen whale, of a toothed whale and of a shark were discovered.

Grove Municipal Coat of Arms

Shield parted by a fess wavy of Or over Azure, above Vert a chestnut leaf Argent at dexter and a plough Argent at sinister, beneath Or a bell beaker Gules.
Meaning:
The plough is stressing the rural character. The leaf is alluding to the numerous local chestnut trees and oaks. The fivefold leaf is also alluding to the five historical field sectors. The beaker is symbolising that the area had been besettled since the Neolithic Age. Furthermore a nearly complete bell beaker was excavated in 1964.

Hamfelde Municipal Coat of Arms

The green shield is divided by a silver (= white) bend sinister wavy, which is shifted to the base. Above right is a golden (= yellow) windmill. Below left is a postal horn of the same colour.
Meaning:
The mill is representing various types having been in the municipality: a watermill mentioned 1612, a windmill built in 1801 and a Dutch windmill built in 1874. The horn stresses that Hamfelde was an important mail service station from 1703 to 1851. Besides the Imperial Mail four other services held a station in Hamfelde.

The shield is divided by an s-shaped line into green over gold (= yellow). Above right is a golden (= yellow) annulet split thrice. Below left is a red blossom of corn cockle barbed green.
Meaning:
"Kankelau" is derived from "Cankelowe", the Slavic name of the corn cockle. The annulet is symbolizing the form of the early settlement with the three main streets.

The shield is divided per bend sinister wavy into green over gold (= yellow). Above left is a silver (= white) ruin of a castle. Below left is a green branch of cherry with three red cherries.
Meaning:
The name of the municipality is of Slavic origin meaning "castle near the cherries". The arms are thus canting.

In a green shield is a golden (= yellow) wheel bossed red. The base is separated by a silver (= white) fess wavy. The base is superimposed by two golden oak leaves.
Meaning:
The arms are canting. The name is derived from the old Polabian word "kolo", which means "wheel". The leaves remind on a wood, which existed here in the past. The fess wavy is symbolizing riches of water. The green colour is symbolizing meadows and groves.

Kuddewörde Municipal Coat of Arms

The red shield is divided by a silver (= white) bend wavy shifted to the base. The bend begins in the middle base point and ends in the centre of the dexter edge of the shield. Above left is a silver (= white) crane holding a stone in his claw. The crane is accompanied by a cross patty of the same colour, which is superimposed by a blue Greek cross.
Meaning:
The crane is taken from the arms of the von der Lieth family from Bremen, owners of Kuddewörde Manor from 1490 till 1585. The crane holding a stone is also a symbol of vigilance. The bend wavy is symbolizing the Bille river. The cross is alluding to the fact, that Kuddewörde had a church at least since 1230. It was seat of a monastery and a hospital of the Augustinians from 1497 till 1521.

The shield is divided by a silver (= white) bend wavy into green over blue. Above left is a silver (= white) bridge made of rubble stones. Below right are two figures of the same colour: a millwheel and a carp.
Meaning:
The millwheel is a canting element. In the past there had been a watermill in the municipality. The carp is alluding to the numerous fish ponds. The bridge is symbolizing the connection between Mühlenrade and nearby Köthel. The bend wavy is symbolizing the creeks Bille and Schiebenitz as well.

Sahms Municipal Coat of Arms

The shield is divided into gold (= yellow) over silver (= white) by a blue fess wavy. Above is a green frog. Below is a red, horizontal key.
Meaning:
The frog is canting. The name of the municipality is of Slavic origin meaning "location (or creek) with frogs". The key is symbolizing (pars pro toto) the local parish church. Matthias Claudius, the poet, was reverend in Sahms from 1813 till 1859. The fess wavy is symbolizing the Steinau, a local creek.
