Merseburg Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, issuant from base a rounded embattled wall Argent masoned Sable, issuant from wall a stylised dome Argent, having four towers with cone roofs, each one topped by a golden ball, the central towers are bigger, in open port the head of St. John the Baptist proper, served on a dish Or.
Meaning:
The arms are based on a local seal from 1289, which is however considered to be in use since the beginning of the 13th century. The arms basically remained the same, only minor details had been changed. The last changes took place in 1998. St. John the Baptist is the local patron saint, together with St. Lawrence.
