Marktredwitz Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess; above Or a demi-eagle issuant Sable, armed Argent and tongued Gules, beneath Gules a lower demi-wheel Argent.
Meaning:
Marktredwitz belonged to the Free Imperial City of Eger from 1341 until 1816. City rights were granted in 1384. The oldest known seal print from 1441 already displayed the current pattern. The eagle is the imperial (one-headed) eagle. The wheel (German: Rad) is punning for the old city name Radewitz. The arms remained basically the same, but between 1819 and 1836 the eagle was white in a blue field, matching the Bavarian colours. Marktredwitz gained city rights in 1907 and became a county-free city in 1919.
