Tomislav Šipek, 23 April 2018

The municipality of Furesø (40,325 inhabitants in 2016; 5,681 ha) was established on 1 January 2007 as the merger of the former municipalities of Farum (18,662 inh. in 2005) and Værløse (18,649 inh. in 2005). The municipality's namesake is Lake Furesø (941 ha; 37.7 m in depth, therefore the deepest Danish lake).

The coat of arms features a stylized bird flying over stylized waves. This is a direct reference to the poem "Flyv, fugl! Flyv over Furesøens vove!" (Fly bird! Fly over Lake Fure's waves). Better known as "Flyv, fugl! Flyv", the poem published in 1828 by the romantic poet Christian Winther (1796-1876) and made a song in 1838 by John Peter Emilius Hartmann (1805-1900).
