About the Institute

The Instituto del Tabaco de la República Dominicana (Tobacco Institute of the Dominican Republic, INTABACO) was created by Law No. 5961 on 15 June 1962, published in the Official Gazette No. 8673 to create an independent institution to "handle the tobacco sector." According to the Ministry of Agriculture's website, INTABACO is charged with maintaining and enhancing the quality of the national tobacco industry, implementing technological development and improving competitiveness, and ensuring the financial performance and economic welfare of the tobacco sector.
