Overview

Echeandía canton (10,951 inhabitants in 2001; 22,990 ha) is located in the north-west of Bolívar province, 70 km of Guaranda. Echeandía was originally known as Osolomo; when established a parish in 1920, it was renamed for Guaranda-born Colonel Manuel de Echeandía (1785-1850), who served in Simon Bolívar's army.
