Overview

The parish of Chit�n de Navarretes was established on 11 February 1963 as part of Mont�far (Carchi).
Chit�n is named for a local word meaning either "a height" or "surrounded by rivers". Navarretes is the incorrect form of Navarette, the family that offered the plot to establish the parish.
