The municipality of Torrepadre (86 inhabitants in 2009; 2,856 ha; municipal website) is located 50 km of Burgos.
Torrepadre was founded by a lord Padre, as evidenced by a document he signed on 1 May 950, as the founder of the village and tower (torre) of Torrepadre. Each of the villages founded at the time in the lower Arlanza valley was protected against Moorish raids by a watch tower.
