Symbols of Fresno del Río

The flag and arms of Fresno del Río are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 14 October 1996 by the Palencia Provincial Government, signed on 23 October 1996 by the President of the Government, and published on 11 November 1996 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 218 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Quadrangular flag, with proportions 1:1, crimson, which is the color of Castile. In the middle of the flag is placed the municipal coat of arms in full colors.
Coat of arms: Shield in Spanish shape. Argent an ash tree [fresno] over waves azure and argent. The shield surmounted with a Royal Spanish crown.

The Royal Academy of History found the design of the proposed arms "simple and matching our best tradition". However, the Academy pointed out the inaccurate representation of the waves, which should fill the whole base of the shield. The proposed flag was deemed "acceptable, as well" (Boletín de la Real Academia de la Historia, 1998, 195, 2: 373).
