Presentation of Orcières

The municipality of Orcières (725 inhabitants in 2012; 9,827 ha) is located in the region of Champsaur (upper valley of river Drac). The village was once known as Oursières, a direct reference to the bears (ours), then common in the Alps. The ski resort of Orcières-Merlette (1,850-2,725 m), located 5 km above the village of Orcières, has 29 ski-lifts, serving 44 runs, for a total length of 85 km. The resort has also cross-country ski trails (20 km).
