Yachting Club de Décines (YCD) was established in 1964 in Grand Large, a 150 ha man-made lake located east of Lyon.
Established at the end of the 19th century to supply water from river Rhône to the hydro-electric plant of Cusset via the Jonage Canal (19 km), the lake will be managed by EDF (Électricité de France, the national energy company) until 2041. No longer used for electricity production, the lake is now a site of leisure. In partnership with EDF, a syndicate grouping the neighboring municipalities of Villeurbanne, Vaulx-en-Velin, Décines-Charpieu, Meyzieu, Jonage and Jons, aims at developing the potential of the site as an urban landscape, a biodiversity spot, and a sports and leisure place.
