Description of the Flag

The Scottish referendum campaign has produced at least one new flag. While the overall "Yes" group, Yes Scotland, does not have a flag, its subsidiary, Labour for Independence, does. I had one in my hands yesterday; it has certainly been manufactured commercially. It is a red flag with in the upper hoist a fairly small white thistle. The thistle, but not the flag, is illustrated on their website www.labourforindy.co.uk. It has been stylised so that it somewhat resembles the rose which is the emblem of the Labour Party. This is a bit cheeky because Labour is of course officially a fervently Unionist party.

Looking around, I've also found a flagoid that pops up on different items being the Scottish saltire defaced with a red shield bearing an arm holding a pickaxe with the words "old labour for a new Scotland vote aye."
