DC was established on 2 April 2000 in Zagreb as a reformist and center splinter of HDZ, following the failure in the 2000 election and the death of President Tudjman. DC participated in 2004 to the government led by Ivo Sanader (HDZ), with Vesna Škare-Ožbolt, as the Minister of Justice.

Flag of DC

The flag of DC, adopted in 2002, is prescribed in the party's statutes (website) as white with the party's emblem in the middle. The emblem consists of letters "DC", the "D" red and the "C" blue except the part overlapping the "D), which is checky blue and white, and, below, the name of the party in black letters. The flag is used, among other places, on the party's headquarters situated in the main square of Zagreb; it is used in the party's conventions and so on.
