In the local magazin Vidovske crtice, Glasilo općine Donji Vidove, No. 1, 2009, Mladen Grubić presents two proposals of coat of arms, "Azure two swords argent hilted or guard and pomel sable in saltire and in chief scales or" and "Or two swords argent hilted azure guard and pomel sable in saltire and in chief scales azure".
The arms symbolize the centuries long struggle for survival, fight against the Turks and other conquerors, with the crossed swords in a medieval shield, while the goldsmith's scales symbolise the renown Vidovec's placer gold miners; washing up gold from the Drava river is traditional in Vidovec. The blue version of the shield symbolizes water surrounding the place, while the golden version stands for gold-rich rivers and placer miners.

As communicated by municipal officials in August 2015, none of the two designs (blue flag with yellow coat of arms, yellow flag with blue coat of arms) was actually adopted yet, so they remain proposals, although both have been recorded in occasional use.
On the blue version, the flag has an inscription below the coat of arms, obviously the municipality name, probably in the complete form, "OPČINA DONJI VIDOVEC".
