Flag of Mursko Središće

The symbols of Mursko Središće are prescribed by Decisions Odluka o zastavi Mursko Središće (flag) and Odluka o grbu Mursko Središće (coat of arms), both adopted on 30 January 1996 by the Municipality Assembly and published in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Županije Međimurske (issue and date unknown). Decision Odluka o prihvačanju postojećeg grba i zastave bivše Općine Mursko Središće, adopted on 28 August 1997 by the Town Assembly and published on 22 September 1997 in Službeni glasnik Međimurske županije, No. 5, prescribes the symbols to be the same as the existing flag and arms of the former Municipality of Mursko Središće.

The flag is prescribed as follows:

The flag of the municipality is rectangular, in proportions 1:2.
The flag is set horizontally. The flag is green, with the coat of arms of the Municipality of Mursko Središće set in the part of the flag near the hoist, edged with a yellow stripe.
The ceremonial flag is produced of highly glossy material, edged with a golden ribbon with knitted fringe.
The colours of the flag are identical to the colours prescribed in the Regulations on standardization of the coat of arms and the flag.

The flag is also used with the coat of arms in the centre (photo), rather than offset to hoist as prescribed. The purpose here appears to make the town's flag more "in balace" with the national, the County and European Union flags displayed on the other masts in front of the new Town Hall (a former school). On the same photo, the regular town's flag is carried by a miner in ceremonial uniforms; beside him, a miner carries the green-black flag of the miner's organization, inscribed "Rudarski zbor", with some central golden embrideries elements that are not clearly visible.

The coat of arms is prescribed as follows:

On a green shield there in the top part a white, or silver horizontal bar, symbolizing river Mura. In the lower part of the shield is depicted a mining lamp coloured yellow or golden, symbolizing mining in the area.

The mining equipement is a reminder of the extensive coal mining industry that made the town prosperous and was closed long time ago, and of oil extraction performed in the area ever since the end of the 19th century.

The ceremonial flag (photo) is basically the same as the municipal flag, It is, however, prescribed to be made of better materias and to include a golden fringe. The flag in use has, noticeably, a smaller coat of arms than usual and a wide golden outline around it.

The yellow flag reportedly once in use remains of unknown status; possibly, it was an early variant, eventually replaced with the green flag eventually, or the report was simply erroneous.
