Igrane (480 inhabitants) was already settled in the classical period, as evidenced by Roman graves. The St. Michael church was erected in the 11th century among the olive groves growing on the steep hills raising above the coast from Igrane.
Igrane was first documented only in 1466. The Šimić-Ivanišević family built a Baroque summer manor there in 1760. During the Cretan War (1645-1669) a tower was erected i nthe port, named
the Zale's tower, after the local leader of the struggle against the Ottomans, Zale Antičić.
