Flag of Breznica

The symbols of Breznica are prescribed by Decision Odluka o opisu i uporabi grba i zastave Općine Breznica, adopted on 12 October 2015 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 15 October 2015 in the County official gazette Službeni vjesnik Varaždinske županije, No. 46 (text).

The flag is prescribed in Article 8 as follows:

The flag is made in the ratio (height to length) 1:2 and is green coloured. The coat of arms of the municipality is set in the centre of the flag at the crossing point of the diagonals.

According to Deputy Mayor Božo Majoen, who kindly offered most of the information presented on this page, the adoption process started in mid-2014.
The symbols, designed by Zoran Kolarević, from the Zagreb-based company Oz Media, were apporved on 25 April 2016 by the Ministry.
A proposed variant with a blue background was eventually turned down; a green background was prefered to represent the regional forests and as a continuation of the stump-and-sprout symbolism.

The symbols were publicly presented and consecrated by the parish priest on 22 July 2016, the Municipality Day, as the Day of St. Mary Magdalene, patron saint of the municipality and the parish (photos, photos; Na dan oživjeli stara vremena, Varaždinske vijesti, 26 July 2016; Simbolizira se preporod i vraćanje života, Regionalni tjednik, 26 July 2016).

The ceremonial flag (photo) is similar to the official flag, but with a "greater" coat of arms. Above the shield is a yellow scroll inscribed "Breznica" in black letters, and above it "Općina" in yellow letters. Below the shield is a white medieval fort - representation of the Bisag fort*, surrounded by a yellow wreath of leaves.

*The ruins of the fort, which was partially demolished after 1918 and finally devastated in a balze during the Second World War are located in the present-day's village of the same name. While the municipality has its administrative in the village of Breznica, the building with actual offices is in the village of Bisag, together with the post office, etc.).
