Presentation of the Zagreb Fair

The annual Zagreb fair was established in 1909 as Zagrebački zbor. After the Second World War, the fair resumed in 1947 as Zagrebački velesajam, still existing today.

Flag of the Zagreb Fair

The flag of the Zagreb Fair, designed in the 1990s, is a white vertical flag with a logo consisting of diagonally red and blue hatched silhouettes of businessmen with two voided diagonally set squares, topped with the fair name in blue.
The flag is shown on a post stamp released in 1999 (presentation). Both the flag nd stamp were designed by Boris Ljubičić.

At least since the late 1950s, the flag of the Zagreb Fair was vertical, with the white fair emblem in the centre - consisting of a stylized letter "V" forming in its voided interior the letter "Z" all topped with stylized wings and the emblem of the Union of International Fairs (Union des foires internationales). The UFI emblem depcts the head of Mars with his winged helmet as a symbol of trade and a cog wheel as a symbol of industry. The Union name is inscribed in the wheel.

A photo shows the entrance to Zagrebački zbor around 1930. The fair flag is visible in the photo, slightly reminding to the unfortunate ideological designs soon to follow (but having no such connotations at the time). The flag is vertical, blue with a white disk offset towards the top containing the initials "ZZ" in Bauhaus type font.
