Mashhed is a Local Council since 1960 with 6,500 inh. (2003),
all Moslems, situated 5 kms. north to Nazareth
next to Kafar Kanna. The meaning of
the name in Arabic is a Grave of an holy man. It is traditionally
to identify the said grave, situated near the main mosque as the
grave of the Prophet Jonah (Yona HaNavi - Nabi Yunes).
Been there twice but no flag. At least the local football team has a flag of blue with yellow inscription in Arabic: Iti'had Ibnu El'Mashhed (Mashhed Juniors Union). See <www.panet.co.il>.
