Description of the flag

The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), founded on 21 June 2009 in New Delhi and announced on 29 July 2009 in a press conference held at New Delhi, organized its first national congress on 18 October 2009. The SDPI is backed up by the Popular Front of India (PFI), a confederation of Muslim organizations mostly active in southern India (see companion message). Presided by E. Abubacker and mostly Muslim-oriented, the party claims "to cater needs of marginalized people including Muslims, Dalits, tribals, women and some sections of backward communities". The party ideology "is founded on the principles of freedom from fear and hunger". The party opposes to the political system dominated by the Congress and the BJP, to "predatory capitalism" and to "the feudal, upper caste ruling class". Registered on 13 April 2010 as a political party with the Election Commission of India (ECI) , the SDPI won in May 2010 67 seats in the Karnataka local council's (Gram Panchayat) elections.
