The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) was founded in 2004. The party was certified in July 2005 by the  National Elections Commission to run in October general and presidential elections. During the party's Convention ran from 29 July to 1 August 2005, George Manneh Weah was endorsed as the first standard bearer for the party. Weah lost in the second round of the presidential run-off (40.6% to 59.4% for Ellen Johnson Sirleaf); CDC has been since then the most viable opposition party in Liberia. In the 2011 presidential elections, CDC refused to participate in the second round, alleging again massive fraud, which was, again, not recognized either by the National Elections Commission or international observers. FDC currently holds two seats (out of 30) at the Senate and 10 seats (out of 73) at the House of Representatives.

The colours and logo of CDC are described in Article 1 of the party's Constitution.
"Sec. 3 The colors of the CDC shall be that of the rainbow, symbolizing the promise of lasting peace and stability in the land resulting from the unity in diversity of CDC membership and the people of Liberia.
Sec. 4 The logo of the CDC depicts and is described as follows:
The Rainbow which sets in the cloud, depicts unity in diversity of membership of CDC and the entire citizenry of the Republic of Liberia. The green leaf represents the fertility of the Liberian landscape; the sun represents a new dawn in the political and socio-economic spectacle of Liberia."

On the official depiction of the logo, the background of the shield is of a very light blue-gray colour, much lighter than on the flag.
