FENAKA (website) was established on 18 June 2012 by a Presidential decree with the merger of former six utility companies, as a limited liability company. The company was registered on 1 August 2012 at Ministry of Economic Development.
FENAKA is a 100% State Owned utility company with a mandate to provide island communities with electricity, water, sewerage and waste management services. The key objective of this company is to ensure sustainable utility services to 16 atolls out of the 19 atolls with a total of 152 islands.

FENAKA provides electricity to residential and business customers across the nation in 152 islands serving approximately 43% of the country's population. Diesel is used as the primary fuel for power generation to date. However with our focus on reducing environmental impacts, the penetration of power from renewable sources is increasing year by year. In our efforts to achieve the government's pledge to assure 24 hours electricity, FENAKA has achieved 24 hours uninterrupted electricity services by upgrading existing network and increasing power generation capacity.
The POISED project aims for at least 30% of power generation through renewable sources in all islands in Maldives. Also, FENAKA now maintains and operate a total of 760 kWp of solar energy generation in two islands.

In line with the government pledge to provide sanitation facilities to all the islands, FENAKA strives to provide the best sewerage service in country. The sewerage service is not as wide as electrical services. It has its sewerage service in 22 islands. Two type of sewer-age system are used, gravity system and vacuum system.
FENAKA supplies clean water to island community by in-stalling and operating RO plants and piping to household. Currently desalinated water is supplied to 18 islands and out of that it has piped water in 2 islands. To provide clean drinking water, pipe laying and house meter connections to all the islands of Addu City are currently in process.

The flag of FENAKA (photo, photo, photo, photo, photo, photo, photo, photo) is white with a green border and the company's emblem in the center.
