Coat of Arms

image from Facebook

The coat of arms of Hidalgo was adopted during the term of 2004-2007. Its designer is unknown. The Institute of Culture of the State asked for submissions from people for the selection of the coat of arms of Hidalgo, in which they served as jurors. Ornamentation is added on top of the border of the shield, which itself reads its name and its motto, EL TRABAJO ES HONOR Y VIRTUD [Work is Honor and Virtue]. The upper-left section depicts a scroll with the old trail through the municipality, imposed over a map of the state. The upper-right depicts the Saint Michael the Archangel church. To the lower-right is another church, having in front a palm tree and lake. To the lower-right symbols of the local industry and environment; a fish, cactus, snake, corn, cattle, and scorpion.
