Coat of Arms

image from Facebook

The history of the coat of arms is unknown, according to the council. The shield is divided diagonally into four sections. The upper one depicts the San Gabriel dam with the sun overlooking it. To the left, an Indian man under the night sky is seen; to the right, a Jesusit missionary, both signifying the indigenous and Spanish periods. At the bottom, a tree for the environment and a head of cattle for the cattle-raising industry, with the year 1607 marking its foundation. At the bottom of the shield is a ribbon reading "SAN MIGUEL DE LAS BOCAS", the original settlemnet; at the top, a ribbon reading "CULTIVO DE ESPERANZA" [Cultivation of Hope].
