The bar wavy is representation the many local little watercourses, especially the Murta Creek. The tree is symbolising agriculture, especially oliviculture, an important business line in both former communes and part of both former coats of arms. The nimbus is taken from the arms of the former Rego da Murta Commune and an attribute of St. Peter, patron saint of its local parish church. The cross is taken from the arms of the former Pussos Commune and is alluding to the fact that both villages had been donated in the Medieval to the Order of the Templars.
