About the flag

It is a fairly typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain red background. Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário da República : III Série in 1986.06.11, a remarkably late date.

The arms are Argent a lion Gules and eight fig leaves Vert. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "Vila de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo". "Figueira" means "(common) fig (tree)", which makes the arms partly canting.

Version without the coat of arms

Plain (monocoloured) Portuguese subnational flags are not allowed to have variations without arms: plain flags always carry the coat of arms.
