About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of white and green.

Coat of arms

Shield Vert, two windmill wheels Sable rigged Argent ordered per fess, in central chief a heraldic rose Or barbed of the same and seeded Azure, in base a grapevine Purpure leaved Or. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "MOITA DOS FERREIROS".
Meaning:
The windmill wheels are stressing the economic importance of flour mills in the past. The mystic rose is an attribute of Our Lady of Mercy, the local patron saint since the Middle Ages. The grapevine is stressing the importance of local viticulture.
