It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

Sable eleven bezants set in cross with seven in pale and in base a blacksmith's hammer and its anvil both Argent emphasized Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "FERREIRA - MACEDO DE CAVALEIROS".
Meaning:
"Ferreira", means "female blacksmith" and the hammer and anvil in the arms are canting for it. (Ferreira is also a very often surname.)
