The arms are Argent issuant from two coupeaux Vert a strawberry tree Vert fruited Gules and in chief a cross coupe Gules bottoned with twelve acorns Or seathed Vert between two chestnuts in their chests Vert open Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "MARMELETE"
Meaning:
The arms are not canting as "marmelete" means something like "small quince", fruit which is not shown upon the shield. It in turn includes a strawberry tree (Latin: Arbutus unedo), for its local importance, and ditto for the chestnuts; the Cross of St. Anthony (of Lisbon and Padova) refers to the local patron (current civil communes derived from Catholic parishes, with which many still coincide in territory).
António Martins-Tuválkin, 26 Jan 2008

Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário da República: III Série in 1997.07.25.
