About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of white and blue.

Coat of arms

Shield Azure with base wavy of Argent, Azure and Vert, a hammer in pale crossed with two mattocks in saltire, all Argent hilted Or, in chief a fleur-de-lis Argent. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "AZURARA".
Meaning:
The fleur-de-lis is an attribute of St. Mary, the local patron saint. The base wavy, displaying sea water (green) and sweet water (blue) is representing the mouth of Ave River.

Azurara Commune is one of the 21 communes of Vila do Conde Municipality; it had 2305 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 2.2 km².
