Shield Gules with base wavy of Argent and Azure, a well Argent spitting water of the same flanked by two doloires (=axe blades) Argent, in central chief a fleur-de-lis Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "VIANA DO CASTELO - SANTA MARIA MAIOR".
Meaning:
The fleur-de-lis is an attribute of St. Mary, the local patron saint.

The arms are Gules a castle wall Argent throughout towered Argent masoned Sable with port and windows Sable, issuant from a base wavy barruly wavy of six Azure and Argent and in chief dexter a steering wheel Or and in chief sinister an anchor Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (commune rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VIANA DO CASTELO - MONSERRATE".
