Presentation of Serbian Action

Serbian Action is a Serbian ultra-nationalist organization founded in late 2009 or early 2010, which draws the inspiration mainly from Zbor, a pre-WW2 ultra-rightist movement which was re-founded in 2000s. Actually, it might be the successor of this ephemeral re-founded group, for their symbols do have important common traits. The organization also cooperates with similar groups from nearby countries, like the New Right in Romania or Golden Dawn in Greece, and just like them, has incorporated some racist ideas into its ideology, along with some influences to the symbolism.

Flags of Serbian Action

The flag of Serbian Action (photo, photo, photo) is red, charged with its emblem in white. The original version of the emblem consisted of the Chi-Rho christogram superimposed over the outline of an eight-pointed star, all superimposed over a smaller ring and surrounded with a larger one; between two rings are the name of the organization at the top and the motto "Valiance and struggle" (Podvig i borba) at the bottom. At the organization's website, the star is explained as the symbol of Theotokos (Mother of God, Virgin Mary) and as the star of Bethlehem; together with the christogram, it symbolizes the aspiration to spiritual revival of Serbian people. The red color is explained as the symbol of God, and also of the blood spilled in the fighting for freedom, as well as of the "national revolution", which is the goal of Serbian Action. The white color is said to symbolize the Ressurection of Christ, purity of soul, as well as monarchism, making a symbolic link with the French and Russian counter-revolutionaries, but it also symbolizes the white race ("descendants of Japhet").

A newer flag (, photo, photo), which has appeared in late 2013, replaces the larger ring around the emblem with the combined outlines of wheat-ear and cogwheel. According to the organization's website, these symbolize the working people as the basis of the nation. Wheat-ear is also a reference to the original Zbor movement, whose emblem was a green shield charged with a golden wheat-ear and superimposed on a sword; this device, which seems to have never appeared on flags, was also used by the re-founded Zbor and is sometimes displayed by the Serbian Action as well (photo).
The colors of the flag are the same as used by the re-founded Zbor, which suggests that the inspiration was drawn from there.

Flags with the Celtic Cross - Images by Tomislav Todorović, 2 November 2014

Serbian Action also uses flags with a Celtic cross, which it recognizes as an "Aryan" pre-Christian symbol, but insists on its Christian symbolism as well, perhaps even exaggerating it in order to justify its use (presentation).
The original flag (photo, photo, photo) has a white cross with inner red and outer white borders, all on a red field. This design recalls the "Kosovo cross" from the flag of re-founded Zbor, which was shaped so as to resemble the Celtic cross. This additionally suggests that the members of Zbor might have continued their activity in Serbian Action, taking part in creation of its symbols. The influence of New Right, Golden Dawn and other foreign groups, which also use the Celtic cross, must have also been an important factor in adoption of the symbol.
A newer variant of this flag (photo) keeps the red field, but the cross is black, with inner white and outer black borders.

The introduction of newer flags, with the emblem as well as with the Celtic cross, did not mean that the older ones were abandoned. Indeed, all four flags can be seen together (photo, photo, photo).
Serbian Action also makes use of the flag of the Serbian Volunteer Corps (photo), the WW2 military formation founded by the original Zbor.

A newer flag places the newer version of the emblem to the center of the national tricolor. Its earliest photos, which can be found here:

These photos date from 2016, so it must have been introduced by the beginning of that year. The red flags with white emblem were not abandoned, though, for they were used together with the tricolor flag in 2018, the photo being available here:

as well as in 2019, with the photo available here:

and in 2020, with the photo available here

There are also examples of the use of red flags only, such as the photos from
2018: https://akcija.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/IMG-b520bb786af158fdc9e404ed36164830-V.jpg

2020: https://akcija.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201219-125659.jpg
2021: https://akcija.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/photo_2021-12-27_00-11-13.jpg
and 2022: https://akcija.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/photo_2022-01-11_01-51-34.jpg
so they are clearly still in use.
