Description

Honiara is the capital of the Solomon Islands and of Guadalcanal Province, although it is a separately administered town. The administrator is the Honiara City Council.

The name "Honiara" is actually a misnomer: the English colonialists found it hard to pronounce the original name of the area in the northern Guadalcanal languages: Nagoniara. Nagoniara means "in front of the wind."

The flag is a "seal on a bedsheet", completely white with the seal of the Honiara City Council in the center.

The City:
"Honiara, population 49,107 (1999 census), 78,190 (2009 estimate), is the capital of the Solomon Islands and of Guadalcanal Province, although it is a separately administered town. - from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honiara.

City Council Flag

[Honiara (Solomon Islands)] 1:2 by Jens Pattke, 4 October 2009

The flag of the Honiara City Council, Solomon Islands, consists of city council logo on a white background. The seal-like logo shows three horizontal stripes of green-yellow-green and white five-pointed star in the center, around the inscription "HONIARA CITY COUNCIL". It can be seen here: http://www.sibconline.com.sb/elections/results_province.asp?provinceID=08.

The flag of the city of Honiara is equivalent to the flag of the Honiara City Council. Instead of the inscription "Honiara City Council" are the descriptions " CITY OF HONIARA" and "NATIONAL CAPITAL".
